Ladder

PLAYERS: 2-3
This is an ancient Zont game, played when they still lived among the great trees. You and your opponents are racing to create the most trunk ladders. Each ladder is ten mighty rungs.

OBJECTIVE
Be the first to play a sum of ten, or the first to play a Favors ( ), and cause all players to score their cards. When all cards have been played, the player with the highest value of cards scored wins.

SETUP
Shuffle the deck, deal each player 5 cards and place the deck in the middle of the table. The player who has climbed a tree recently goes first. Or use your favorite random way to determine who goes first.

HOW TO PLAY
Starting with the first player, each player will take turns until there are no cards left in the deck and all players have played all cards in their hands.

During your turn (in this order):

1. Play 1 card down onto the table in front of you in a line from left to right.
2. Use that suits power.
3. Total the value of your face-up cards.
4. If the total is 10 or more – CLEAR.
5. If the total less than 10, draw back up to 5 and pass your turn to the next player.

CLEAR
This means each player puts the cards they have in front of them into THEIR OWN scoring pile and play continues with a clear board.

END OF GAME
Game ends when the last card has been played. All cards not CLEARED at the end of the game (ie. still on the table in front of you) are not scored. Discard pile is not shuffled back in.

SCORING
Points are determined by the numerical values on the cards in your score pile at the end of the game. The player with the most points is the Master Builder!

SUIT POWERS
Each of the 5 suits of the Zont deck has a special power.

ART (+) : May play another card of the same color from your hand (But don’t use it’s power)

CHANGE (-) : May discard one card of the same color from play. A discard pile is created next to the draw deck.

FAVORS (four dots) : Must cause a CLEAR for the whole board. Even if this is the only card on the table.

GREAT ZONT (single dot) : Cannot be affected by Change.

GIGLETS (infinity) : Takes on the power of the card on it’s left. If there is no card on the left, it does nothing.
